The best teal bedroom ideas come down to three choices: put teal on the wall behind the bed or on the headboard before you paint the whole room, balance it with warm colours (mustard, dusty pink, terracotta, honey-toned wood), and plan more light than in a pale room, in warm white, with brass or gold […]
Read the articleFor a downstairs toilet, one compact ceiling light or a wall light is usually enough: aim for 400 to 600 lumens of warm white light, between 2,700 and 3,000 K, from opal glass or a diffuser that does not dazzle. In a windowless toilet, add a presence sensor and a low night light, and let […]
Read the articleWabi-sabi interior design is a way of decorating inspired by a Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in things that are imperfect, worn and passing. It relies on raw materials (crumpled linen, ceramic, driftwood, clay), earth colours, a few objects chosen for their story, and a soft, filtered light that keeps its share of shadow. A […]
Read the articleScandinavian style is a way of decorating that comes from the Nordic countries. It brings together light interiors (white, pale grey, blond wood and a few pastel touches), simple and practical furniture, natural and soft materials, and warm light spread across several points. That layered light, designed to make up for short winter days, is […]
Read the articleGreige colour is a soft neutral halfway between grey and beige, named after raw silk. Because it holds both, it shifts with the light: a warm 2,700 K bulb pushes it towards beige, a neutral 4,000 K white towards grey. It pairs with off-white, pale wood, linen, terracotta, black and brass. Greige has replaced magnolia […]

In most Irish homes that means wall lights that follow the slope of the stairs, low step lights for the night and, over a tall stairwell, a pendant. A step you cannot […]
Read the articleWhat colour goes with grey? Almost any colour, once you know its undertone. A cool, bluish grey pairs with crisp white, blue, blush pink and black. A warm grey that leans towards brown prefers cream, beige, wood, mustard and terracotta. Brass light fittings and a warm white bulb around 2,700 K do the rest. Grey […]
Read the articleLumens (lm) measure the total amount of light a source gives out; lux (lx) measure the light that lands on a surface. One lux is one lumen per square metre: to go from one to the other, divide the lumens reaching a surface by its area in m², or multiply the lux by that area. […]
Read the articleMid century modern is the design style of the mid twentieth century, roughly 1945 to 1970. Born of the Bauhaus and developed in the United States, Scandinavia and Europe, it combines clean lines without ornament, teak and walnut, tapered legs, organic shapes, warm colours and lighting that became iconic, from the opal globe to the […]
Read the articlePicture lights work best when their light reaches the painting at about 30° from the vertical of the wall: the glare falls towards the floor and the frame casts almost no shadow. Under a standard 2.40 m ceiling, a spotlight therefore sits about 46 cm out from the wall. Choose a warm white LED with […]
